Keeping Kitty Fit

Is your cat sleeping right now? There’s a good chance that the answer to that question is yes. Fluffy certainly is a drowsy little furball. However, while your pet’s sleeping obsession is cute, it isn’t exactly great for her waistline. But how do you get a cat to work out? It may be easier than you think! Toys

Make sure Fluffy has plenty of kitty toys to pounce on. Cats all have their own purrsonal preferences about playthings: some like catnip mice, others like feather toys, and some prefer playthings that make noise. (Some cats prefer playing with bottlecaps or crumpled up paper balls, but that’s beside the point.) You can also get your feline buddy some fun new toys, like robotic mice or automated laser pointers. Change your kitty’s toys out regularly, so she doesn’t get bored with them.

Playtime

Fluffy’s favorite toy may very well be you. Spend a few minutes a day playing with her. Use interactive toys, like wands or laser pointers, that you can control. Even just a few minutes of playtime will get your furball off the couch and moving. This will be great for your kitty physically. It will also offer her beneficial mental stimulation.

Kitty Furniture

Get your feline pal some furniture that encourages her to jump and climb, such as a cat tower or some kitty shelves. Fluffy may also enjoy some pet tents or tunnels to explore. If you have a tight budget, look online for great DIY options. You may be surprised at how easy it is to turn some common household items into kitty furniture!

Playmates

Some cats love having buddies to chase around and play with! However, think very carefully about the pros and cons of getting a second furball before making a decision. After all, letting a cat adopt you is a lifelong commitment! Also, not all cats like having roommates. Fluffy has been known to be jealous, and isn’t always fond of other kitties. That said, if your feline friend is still quite young, and/or has had furry buddies before, she may enjoy having a playmate. Consider the ages, histories, and temperaments of both cats before deciding.
